Today, BCSD Malaysia, in collaboration with AIESEC in Taylor’s University, conducted a dynamic Train-the-Trainer session aimed at equipping the next generation of leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to drive sustainable innovation. The session, led by the Program Coordinator of BCSD Malaysia, focused on the critical role of youth in shaping a climate-resilient planet, under the theme “Shaping a Climate-Resilient Planet: Youth in Renewable Innovation.”
The presentation was designed to empower youth by deepening their understanding of three pivotal topics:
- Understanding Planetary Boundaries and the SDGs: Participants were introduced to the concept of planetary boundaries, which define the environmental limits within which humanity can safely operate. This was paired with an exploration of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing how these global targets can be localized and actioned by youth.
- Youth Significance in Embedding Sustainability in Decision-Making: The session highlighted the importance of integrating sustainability into every level of decision-making. Young leaders were encouraged to recognize their unique position in influencing corporate, governmental, and community decisions that prioritize long-term planetary health.
- SDG 7: Affordable & Clean Energy and Youth Roles in Clean Energy Transition: A special focus was placed on SDG 7, which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. The discussion underscored the pivotal role of youth in driving the clean energy transition, from advocating for policy changes to innovating within the renewable energy sector.
The key message of the session resonated with participants:
“Climate Action is not a competing interest; it is part of an economic decision for better planetary health.”
This message reinforces the understanding that sustainability and economic growth are not mutually exclusive but rather interdependent.
The event underscored the importance of education and capacity building in the sustainable energy sector, particularly among youth in Malaysia. By equipping young leaders with the knowledge and tools necessary for the clean energy transition, BCSD Malaysia and its partners are paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient future.
As the world faces unprecedented environmental challenges, initiatives like this Train-the-Trainer session are crucial in empowering the next generation to take decisive action. BCSD Malaysia remains committed to fostering an engaged and informed youth community that can lead Malaysia toward a sustainable and prosperous future.
